Music

Here at Annagh NS, music and singing play a vital role in our lives. We love to play music and sing during our Religious ceremonies, for Grandparents’ Day, and for the enjoyment of visitors and ourselves.  All pupils get the opportunity to play music from 2nd class up, and all traditional instruments are welcome. We have our own Grúpa Ceoil, which is comprised of very talented musicians.

Learning music offers numerous benefits, including enhanced cognitive skills such as memory and attention. It fosters creativity and self-expression, allowing students to explore their emotions. Additionally, music education fosters teamwork and social skills through collaborative group work. It also boosts confidence by encouraging students to perform and overcome shyness. Finally, the discipline required to learn an instrument teaches perseverance and commitment. Overall, music enriches both personal and academic growth at Annagh NS.

Our Seachtain na Gaeilge Musical Performance

This week at Annagh NS, our musicians and singers had a fantastic time as they showcased their hard work in a video to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. All the pupils in the school learned the song “Killeagh” (in Irish, of course) and delivered a spirited performance. Our musicians from 2nd to 6th class performed a polka titled “Britches Full of Stitches,” followed by a jig called “The Lilting Beanshee,” and concluded with a barn dance named “Donie Nolan’s.” Full video can be viewed under Special Occasions. Enjoy the instrumental music part below.

Creative Schools

As part of our Creative Schools initiative, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome the dynamic percussionist Brian Fleming! He captivated all our pupils with his infectious energy as he taught them the rich rhythms of the Bodhrán and the art of drumming. The atmosphere was electric as students from 3rd to 6th class came together to showcase their newfound skills, culminating in a stunning performance of the lively Óró sé do Bheatha Bhaile! It was a truly unforgettable experience that brought music and joy to our school community!

Have a listen to our wonderful rendition of Óró sé do Bheatha Bhaile
